Description

Remember Port Mondes? That dark, text-heavy fantasy RPG with card-based stamina, turn-based combat, and layered stories across multiple characters? The dev behind it—Le Nid de Corax—is back with something just as intriguing: Les contes de Vilgorm (or The Tales of Vilgorm), a French rogue-lite RPG that blends storytelling, puzzles, and strategy in a totally unique way.

It all begins in 1930s London, where an ambitious occultist makes a bizarre deal with Vilgorm, the demon of stories. If the demon can tell a tale that ends well, he wins the occultist’s soul. If not, he owes five years of immortality—and has to try again. Each run is one of Vilgorm’s twisted stories, and each ending pushes forward the overarching narrative between him and the occultist, stretching across decades. There’s just one problem: Vilgorm hates his own protagonists, and it shows.

The game is fully in French, but if you can read it—or don’t mind using translation tools like the Translate addon for NVDA—it’s absolutely worth checking out.

 

Gameplay

You’ll guide a main character—one of three distinct protagonists—through turn-based battles, random events, and narrative choices. As you level up, you’ll pick skills, collect gear, and try to survive long enough to reach a good ending. But success isn’t just about tactics; you’ll also have to manage Vilgorm’s growing irritation. His mood can derail your progress in all kinds of unexpected ways, so staying one step ahead of the demon is part of the puzzle.

Between runs, you can unlock better tools to improve your odds next time. Just don’t expect brute force to carry you—every decision counts.
